Wokingham Independents

POST ELECTION MAY 2023 UPDATE

-
If we are going to win seats on Wokingham Council then we need to work a lot smarter.
-
If we are going to make a difference to the wider community, we need to focus on the concerns of the community.
-
We are going to need a much larger group of people to help us win.
-
We are going to need a considerable amount of money to fund a campaign that will need to run for the entirety of next year, taking us to the next Local Elections in May 2024.
-
We need to find new ways to reach out to the 60% of eligible voters who did not turn out to vote.
-
We must get serious about winning. This means a lot more research, analysis, creative thinking and clear communication from us.
-
If you think you can help in any way, we would be most interested in hearing from you.
-
I am personally looking for an Electoral Agent to help me run my campaign.
-
I need to raise £1,000 in the first instance to start funding a campaign to effectively cover the proposed new ward of Arborfield and Barkham.
-
As well as looking for new ways to reach out and communicate I need a team of helpers who can do good old fashioned leaflet delivery across the Arborfield, Barkham and Finchampstead area.
-
I am very interested in your feedback on the election just gone, please feel free to contact me using any of the methods linked to at the bottom of this page.
-
If you can contribute financially my Crowdfunding page is here:
Thanks.
Roderick Paul Stevens.
My initial thoughts are:

-
Brownfield not greenfield sites for housing.
-
Rewarding positive community involvement through annual awards and ensuring anti-social behaviour is met with suitable community “pay back” activity.
-
Encouraging greater biodiversity through rewilding projects and protecting veteran trees, hedgerows, and flood plains.
-
Lifelong learning for all who want or need it to help our community prosper and grow.

Independent candidates and elected members answer only to their electorate and their conscience. They are free to focus on improving local services in all areas of concern to the local community, unhindered by considerations of party politics or old rivalries. That is why I am standing as an Independent.
